The Civil Guard has dealt a significant blow to cybercrime in Spain. After a two-year investigation, they have successfully dismantled a criminal network operating in different cities across the country. A total of 25 individuals have been arrested for their involvement in illegal activities related to bank fund theft and fraudulent use of SIM cards.
Tactics Used
The cybercriminals employed various tactics to carry out their misdeeds. These included the use of "Smishing" and "Sim Swapping". "Smishing" involves sending fake text messages that appear to be from legitimate banking entities to steal account information. On the other hand, "Sim Swapping" entails duplicating a phone's SIM card to fraudulently access bank accounts.

Operation "Calsia" is part of the Civil Guard's "Plan for Prevention and Response against Cybercrime." Its goal is to safeguard companies and citizens affected by these illegal activities. The theft of approximately €100,000 from a company's bank accounts in the Region of Murcia served as the starting point for this investigation.
