In October of last year, Air Europa experienced a cyber-attack that compromised its payment environment. In response, the airline promptly advised its customers to cancel their credit cards due to the potential for a data breach. Unfortunately, a subsequent technical analysis revealed another security breach related to the same incident. Air Europa has reported a potential leak of some passengers' personal information. The compromised data includes
- names or surnames
- ID or passport numbers
- suma frequent flyer codes
- postal addresses
- dates of birth
- telephone
- numbers
- email addresses
- nationalities
Air Europa has stated that it is not aware of any fraudulent use of this data and that any inconvenience caused would be limited. However, it is recommended to be vigilant against phishing attacks. According to specialised cybersecurity organisations, it is important to remain alert to suspicious communications, refrain from downloading or opening files from untrusted sources, and change digital account and profile access credentials at least once a year.
